Study journey provides new hope and opportunities

Lia* had always doubted her abilities, until she completed a Health and Wellbeing program and discovered newfound confidence.

After facing many struggles throughout her young life, Lia reached out to Jagriti Foundation to help her make some urgently needed life changes. She says the personal support she has received from Jagriti has offered rays of hope in what looked to be a deeply personal, hopeless situation.

“Jagriti Foundation has helped me in every possible way. They’ve encouraged me to reflect on past challenges to consider what I would like my future to be. To come out of my shell, step into new healthy situations and try things I wouldn’t normally do, like undertake a study program. Through this support and the learning process, I’ve been able to overcome some of the challenges I’ve been battling for the last six years.

“I am thankful they have been there supporting me to make my own personal right decisions. I couldn’t have done it without them.”

With Jagriti Foundation’s encouragement, Lia has recently completed a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3) qualification, which for her has been extremely valuable.

“I’ve gained the confidence to do more in life now, and I believe that I can be successful. I’ve never felt like that before. My study journey has shown me there are so many opportunities in life and that I do have the ability to pursue whatever I am passionate about.

“I recently finished my last assignment, and my studies combined with my personal experience have inspired me to work in rehabilitation in the future. I would love to help others who are in the same position as I was, and support them to overcome their personal challenges and look to future new goals. I wouldn’t be able to do this without the knowledge I’ve accumulated from my studies and the personal journey I have undertaken over this time.”

Lia is extremely encouraging of anyone who is considering a similar study journey. She says even if you think you may not have the ability to consider study, she stands proud having stepped into the uncertainty, and now realised with commitment, support and focus, nothing is impossible.

“Even if you doubt your capability, be brave and take the plunge. Lots of people worry they won’t be able to do something, but I am here to say, they actually can.

“My online course guide was easy to learn from and understand, and New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) has an extensive support network if you need to reach out. If you’re struggling or unsure about something, then just ask for help, it is waiting for you there.

“I had no hope before I started my journey. Now I know I have a whole community of people who are there for me, championing me on, and celebrating alongside me, my new success.”
